DJ BoBo MP3s no longer publicly accessable

Hi there,

If you've recently read my review of DJ BoBo's _The Very Best of DJ BoBo_, you may be wondering why I'm not offering MP3s of the album. Actually, I did have MP3s up, the entire album actually, but I recently removed them from public access. Why?

A close friend currently hosts my site. He doesn't have a lot of bandwidth or money, and he hosts his own site, as well as sites for other friends. On May 3rd (2002-05-03), the folks at muzikum.com linked to the entire directory of MP3s, each individually, and then posted the addition on their front page. Check it out now: you might see an item listed:

03 May | DJ Bobo / The Best Of added
(16 tracks selected by muzikum).

I find the "selected by muzikum" line to be a bit amusing, myself. Anyway...

Once this made it up to muzikum.com's site, people who frequent that site started noticing, and, for reasons beyond my comprehension (I can only chalk it up to mindless hoarding), started downloading BoBo MP3s en masse. We're talking almost 60 GB of traffic, almost all of it MP3s of DJ BoBo! Most of this between May 3rd and May 11th (2002-05-11), when the box's connection was turned off and the MP3s removed from public access.

If you want to understand the true nature of horror, take a look at this (you may need to scroll right):

Suffice to say that the above is just a mere notion of an inkling of a hint of a whiff of a taste. The actual number of lines like that in my access log is Something Man Was Never Meant To Know.

The mind doth boggle.

So, that's why they're not here anymore. Since so many people downloaded these MP3s, and since they must be in high demand, I believe the hardcore BoBo fan will now have better luck trying Kazaa, Gnutella, Mnet, Freenet, or one of the other distributed networks with respectable amounts of MP3 content. They're certainly enough people out there with the entire _The Best of_ album, anyway. Given that I took my collection offline, arguably the go-to site for DJ BoBo MP3s heretofore, the underground BoBo network must be buzzing since I've made the content scarce.
